America Hears a Baby

In light of the recent release of Horton Hears a Who, how about a campaign by the pro-lifers in this country?  We can call it America Hears a Baby.

I'd love to see a savvy cartoonist draw a mother-to-be with her belly protruding, and a little one growing inside, speaking forth, "I am here, I am here, I am here!"  Wouldn't it be great to see this made into a rear window decal, with millions of pro-lifers driving around, causing those who don't quite understand to think about the fact that the unborn child is just as real, precious, and worthy of protection as the Whos on Horton's dust speck?

Sleepless Nights, for one...

O.K....so I started a blog for 2008 and have only posted four times.

If anyone has a good excuse, it's me!

My 3 month old daughter fooled me into believing she was sleeping through the night by Thanksgiving.  Her New Year's resolution has been to chow down more frequently in the middle of the night!  She's more than worth it, though...no one can hold my attention and affection the way she does these days!  (I love to tell her that  her double chin(s) only heighten her adorableness...can't say that about most others with double chins!!

The number of postings will be in direct correlation to sleep patterns.  

BTW:  I thought I picked a clever, catchy title for my blog.  I still think so, but many of you may disagree if you're familiar with the "current" definition of "sophist".  MY intention was for the title to be taken by its ORIGINAL definition, and I'm gonna let it stand...(especially since my unlearned ways will not allow me to change the settings!)  If you don't know what  I'm talking about, look up the word "sophist" in the dictionary.

Miscalculation in Midwest

O.K...so I was wrong.

Or was I?

I said in an earlier post that Paul would finish 3rd in Iowa.  He finished 4th.  However, if  I'm not mistaken, most pollsters always say that there is approximately a 4 percent margin of error when a poll is taken on any given issue.  In my book, that means Ron Paul's showing of 10 percent of the vote is closer than we think to McCain and Thompson's showings of 13 percent each.

I still believe that we are going to see some surprising things out of the Ron Paul campaign.  Time alone will tell, won't it?

Kerfuffle over the Cross

"The Cross imagery is incidental."

Or so Mike Huckabee claims it to be.  But if he is intellectually honest, the are no incidental images in campaign ads.

Huckabee's now much talked-about, much maligned commercial, wishing America a Merry Christmas, featured a white bookshelf in the background.  At one point during the commercial, as the camera slowly pans from right to left, we see the intersecting shelves making a very noticeable image of the cross behind the candidate.  

Coincidence?  Maybe, just maybe, it hadn't been originally written into the script.  But what couldn't have been missed by even the dullest of advertising novices was the imagery when that commercial was viewed time and time again by those who created it, and by Huckabee's staff before it ever aired on national television.  The vast majority of Americans claim Christianity as their religion of choice, and Huckabee is trying to reach that majority, as are all the other candidates vying for voters.

Incidental, coincidental, or providential?  We'll wait and see.

Forgive the paraphrasing from various Bible translations, and the seemingly scatterbrained writing.  There is a point to all this, and here it is:

Driving back from family festivities in Upstate New York this past weekend, I was heading through the mountains of Pennsylvania with my husband and children, marveling at the incredible beauty of this world God has created.  As I was gazing at some of the snow clinging to various rock formations, I saw it---

I remember thinking, "Boy, those Ron Paul supporters continue to come out of the woodwork and place those signs in the most amazing places these days!"

My mind turned quickly back to the majesty of creation, when not more than a few miles down the road, it was hanging from an underpass/overpass ( I always get them confused!)

I began to quickly notice that for the next 20 miles, give or take, RON PAUL 2008 signs were dotting various spots of the landscape.

My husband and I began sharing our thoughts on what we were seeing.  We came to believe the following:

*  Ron Paul supporters are ardent and determined.  They alone seem to be placing these signs EVERYWHERE
    (I have seen more of his signs than any other candidate, especially along state roads in PA)

*  The media have written Paul off as a far-out candidate, not much better than a lunatic, who has a snowball's 
    chance of going anywhere but home.

*  Paul will finish 3rd, AT WORST, in Iowa, shocking the collective minds of the brilliant media and much of America as well.

One last thing:  my grammar, punctuation, and spelling may be a bit off.  What can you expect from a woman who's still nursing a three-month old once or twice at night?!  My apologies to all of you editor and proofreader types.  My blogs will never be copy ready, but hopefully they will always be insightful.
